Capital One 2019 Data Breach Settlement
In July 2019, a hacker exploited a misconfigured firewall in Capital One's cloud infrastructure and exposed the personal information of approximately 106 million people in the United States and Canada — one of the largest financial data breaches in US history. The stolen data included names, addresses, credit scores, credit card application data, Social Security numbers, and bank account numbers. Capital One settled the resulting class action lawsuit for $190 million. If you applied for a Capital One product (credit card, loan, or checking/savings account) between 2005 and 2019, you were likely affected. Capital One data breach class actions continue to generate new settlements — check the settlement cards above for currently open claims.
