Common Questions

Is it safe to enter my email?

Yes. We check your email server-side using the HaveIBeenPwned API, then immediately discard it. We never store your email with breach results. The check is identical to visiting haveibeenpwned.com directly.

What is HaveIBeenPwned?

HaveIBeenPwned (HIBP) is the world's largest breach database, run by security researcher Troy Hunt. It's used by governments, Firefox, 1Password, and hundreds of millions of users. When companies suffer data breaches, the leaked data is added to HIBP so you can check if your info was exposed.

If I was in a breach, do I automatically get money?

Not automatically — you need to file a claim. But many breaches result in class action lawsuits, and if a settlement is reached, affected users can submit a form to receive compensation. We find and track those settlements for you.

How much can I get from a data breach settlement?

It varies widely. Small settlements pay $25–$100. Larger ones like the T-Mobile settlement paid up to $25,000 for identity theft victims. Most "no documentation" payouts are $75–$340.

What if my breach doesn't have a settlement yet?

Class action cases take time — often 2–5 years from breach to settlement. Sign up for breach-specific alerts and we'll notify you the moment a settlement opens for filing.
