Chemical hair straighteners and relaxers linked to uterine and ovarian cancer in Black women
A landmark NIH study published in 2022 found that women who used chemical hair straighteners more than four times per year were twice as likely to develop uterine cancer. Follow-up studies linked relaxers to increased risk of ovarian cancer as well.
Products including Just for Me, ORS Olive Oil, Motions, and others marketed primarily to Black women contained endocrine-disrupting chemicals including formaldehyde, phthalates, and parabens. Thousands of lawsuits are now pending in an MDL in the Northern District of Illinois.
You may qualify if you used chemical hair relaxers regularly and were diagnosed with uterine or ovarian cancer.
