Why Do These Settlements Require No Proof?
In consumer class actions, defendants already possess records of who their customers were — purchase histories, account data, service records. Settlement agreements typically allow self-certification of eligibility rather than requiring you to submit documentation the defendant already has. This is standard practice, not a loophole.
The trade-off: base no-proof payouts are lower, while claimants with documented losses (fraud, identity theft, specific damages) can claim higher amounts in most of these settlements.
