Apple's $250 Million iPhone AI Settlement: Up to $95 for iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Owners

SettlementRadar News

Apple Inc. has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class action lawsuit accusing the tech giant of deceptive marketing around its Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features — features that were heavily promoted before the iPhone 16 launch but were not actually available when consumers bought their devices. If you purchased a qualifying iPhone between June 2024 and March 2025, you could be eligible for a cash payment of up to $95 per device.

What Is the Apple Intelligence Class Action Settlement About?

The lawsuit, Landsheft v. Apple Inc. (Case No. 5:25-cv-02668-NW, N.D. California), was originally filed in March 2025 and alleges that Apple violated consumer protection laws by marketing its new generation of iPhones as a breakthrough in artificial intelligence — specifically promising significant enhancements to Siri — even though those capabilities did not exist or were materially misrepresented at the time of sale.

The complaint specifically targeted Apple's Enhanced Siri features, such as AI-powered digital assistant recollection and calendar reminders that were announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024 and heavily featured in marketing campaigns throughout the iPhone 16 launch period. Plaintiffs alleged Apple "saturated the market with deceptive ads" that ran during major broadcast events and online platforms, leading consumers to buy new iPhones under the belief that those advanced Siri features were available or imminent.

In March 2025, Apple publicly acknowledged that the personalized Siri features would be indefinitely delayed and quietly pulled those advertisements. The timing was seen by the plaintiffs as evidence that Apple marketed capabilities it knew were not deliverable on the promised timeline.

Apple has maintained that its ads were not misleading because it disclosed the features would be delivered over time, and that it successfully launched more than 20 Apple Intelligence features. The company has not admitted wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

Who Is Eligible for the Apple Settlement?

The proposed class covers a specific group of US iPhone buyers. To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You are a US resident
  • You purchased an eligible iPhone in the United States (not for resale)
  • Your device is one of the following models: iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • You made the purchase between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025

The iPhone 15 (standard) and iPhone 15 Plus are not included, as Apple Intelligence was only available on the Pro models in that generation. The iPhone 17 line is also excluded, as its launch date falls after the March 29, 2025 cutoff. Court documents indicate approximately 37 million eligible devices exist within this class definition.

How Much Could You Receive?

The settlement provides a base payment of $25 per eligible device, with the potential for payments to reach as high as $95 per device depending on the total number of valid claims filed.

If fewer people file claims than anticipated, your individual payout increases. The $95 figure represents the upper ceiling — class members should plan for a payout in the $25–$95 range per device. If you purchased multiple qualifying iPhones during the class period, you may be able to submit a claim for each device.

How to File a Claim

As of May 2026, the settlement has not yet received final court approval. Here is what to expect from the process:

  1. Preliminary approval: The settlement agreement was filed on May 6, 2026, with plaintiffs asking the court to approve it as fair and adequate. A preliminary approval hearing is expected within 60–90 days.
  2. Class notice distribution: Once the court grants preliminary approval, eligible class members will receive notice by mail or email. Notices are expected to go out within 45 days of preliminary approval.
  3. Claims filing period: An official settlement website and claims portal will be launched. Class members will have 60–120 days to file claims online. No proof of purchase is required to file, though having documentation strengthens your claim.
  4. Final approval hearing: A fairness hearing where the judge grants final approval — expected around late summer or fall 2026.
  5. Payment distribution: Payments are sent to valid claimants after final approval and resolution of any appeals.

Until the official portal launches, Apple customers should avoid any unofficial websites claiming to process settlements early — these are scams. The official notice will come directly by email or mail.

Gather Your Records Now

Although no proof of purchase is required to submit a claim, having documentation increases the credibility of your submission and may help if your eligibility is questioned. Here are the best ways to document your qualifying purchase:

  • Apple ID purchase history: Go to Apple Account Settings → Privacy → Request a copy of your data → select purchase and transaction history
  • Carrier upgrade records: Your wireless carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) will have records of device upgrades linked to your account
  • Credit card or bank statements: Look for Apple Store, carrier, or retailer charges from June 2024 through March 2025
  • Email confirmations: Search your inbox for Apple order confirmation emails from that period

Context: A Pattern of Apple AI Accountability

This $250 million settlement is not Apple's first major Siri-related payout. Earlier in 2026, Apple agreed to pay $95 million in a separate "Siri eavesdropping" lawsuit that alleged Apple contractors were listening to private conversations captured when Siri was accidentally triggered. That settlement has already entered the payment distribution phase.

Together, these two settlements represent nearly $350 million in Apple consumer payouts related to Siri — with a third, larger battle still pending. A shareholder class action alleges that Apple's AI marketing artificially inflated its stock price; Apple filed a motion to dismiss that case in February 2026, and it remains active.

The $250 million Apple Intelligence settlement also carries significance beyond the dollar amount: it is one of the first major consumer class actions to hold a tech company accountable specifically for overpromising AI capabilities. As artificial intelligence marketing accelerates across the industry, this case may set a precedent for how boldly companies can market features that are not yet fully developed.

What Happens Next for Apple Intelligence

Apple's WWDC 2026 is scheduled for June 8, 2026 — just weeks after this settlement was filed. The company has strongly signaled that the long-delayed personalized Siri features will arrive with iOS 27. Settling the consumer lawsuit before that announcement allows Apple to present its new AI capabilities on a cleaner slate, without active litigation over the previous generation's broken promises overshadowing the keynote.

For consumers, this means: if Apple delivers on its iOS 27 Siri promises, you still have a claim from the devices you bought under the old marketing. If Apple delays again, expect fresh lawsuits.
